| Visectomy reversal (reversing vasectomies) are not easy. Even though the surgical techniques are improving you can not count on a successfully done reversal. | |
Visectomy reversal

The original operation was done by making to inciscions at the scrotums and cutting the tubes (sometimes even a small piece is then removed as well), the ends are permanently sealed and put back again before sealing up the scrotum with micro-stitches - the whole thing being a fairly simple 30-minute operation. The idea is of course that this should be permanent - so when a patient has second thoughts and wants to consider reversing the operation, it is considerably more difficult and has a lower success rate. The visectomy reversalThe chance of a man who has reversed his visectomy, becoming a father is very small. A reversal is far more difficult and expensive than the vasectemy itself. If you are thinking about a reversal before you have made the vasectamy you may not make a vesectomy now. A vasectomy should be considered permanent if possible. It is difficult and expensive to reverse a vasectomy. The reason you should consider a vasectomy permanent is because a reversal is usually not very effective. Approximately 5-10% of all male patients want to reverse their vasectomy at some time. Reversal of the original operation is a micro-surgical procedure and takes about 4 hours. The success rate is not impressive - the pregnancy rate after the reverse operation is only about 50%. Usually the vasectomy reversing is made at a hospital. The operation is usually done with local, spinal, epidural or general anesthesia. It is the surgeon, patient and anesthesiologist who decide together which anesthesia that will be most suitable for this patient and under these conditions and circumstances. When the patient is anesthetized, the doctor will make two small cuts on each side of the scrotum. Then remove the scarred ends of the vas created by the vassectomy. If the reversal does not work, or if you cannot or do not want to do one there are always other options available to replace this. You can take sperm from the testis. But this is not a very good solution because it is usually a very ineffective way of obtaining viable sperm. The sperm in the vas and epididymis (small tubes that are covering the side and the back of the testis) are often old because of the blockage. The number of sperms (the sperm count) is also normally far too low to make a woman pregnant.
